Why a Travel Platform at the University of Bern
A central starting point for achieving the goal of a climate-neutral University of Bern is business travel. All employees of the University are already obliged by the Personnel Regulations of the Canton of Bern and the University’s Expenses regulations to reduce their air travel to a minimum. Furthermore, the University Executive Board has decided on a traffic light system that determines which European destinations have to be traveled to by train or rather for which destinations the train has priority over air travel. The collection of flight travel data is necessary to compensate the resulting emissions. In order to meet all these requirements and to provide optimal support for employees as they plan their business trip, the University has set up a University travel platform as a central service.
The travel platform consists of an online booking tool and a travel agency headquartered in Bern.
Bookings via the travel platform will be mandatory from January 2023 on.
